a short entry with some pics uploaded from the celly…
what I saw during pediatric surgery class this week…
a baby with several anomalies…
this baby boy has gastro-enteroschisis and anomalies of both left upper and lower limb..
gastro-enteroschisis is a condition when a baby is born with the stomach and/or intestines outside the abdominal wall…
also, if you look closely, there are defects of his upper lips as well…
he’ll undergo plastic surgery to rebuild a proper upper lip soon…
then in class, our lecturer showed us his specs that he uses during microsurgeries..
it’s carl zeiss lens..and the glasses magnifies objects twice its original size..
all of us got a chance to try it on…
By the way, the happy guy in most of the pics is our lecturer, Prof. Parshikov Vasheslav Vladimirovich.
For this Prof, there’s nothing complex about pediatric surgery..diagnosis mostly are easily done..
no need to rush..just take some time to sip some tea and think…
well..at least that’s what he says everyday…
“step by step”
He has this grandpa-like gesture..very likeable…although his English still needs a lot of improvement, he tries his best to teach us..
BUT never be late for his class or he’ll choose from his different types of rifles and bazookas to shoot us~!
The other day he brought us to watch an inguinal hernia reduction operation on a 2 month old infant. The operation also included some procedures to separate the intestines obstructed by spikes..and on Friday, we watched fibroscopy in a child with esophageal stenosis..
Hoping to be able to learn more next week.. (^_^)
